How to Fix WordPress Missing Archive File or Plugin download failed

Recently, I encountered a few errors while trying to install a plugin saying a temporary folder missing, and I am sure you might have met such issued and got worried. Well, here’s the fix

Trying to update or install your website plugin, theme, or updating WordPress, and it comes up with “Temp directory/folder missing. It either the temp folder got corrupted, or it got deleted by mistake before you install a plugin, it has first to write that file somewhere, and without the temp directory/folder, it’s not possible. You receive an error message like “Temporary folder missing” or PCLZIP_ERR_MISSING_FILE (-4): Missing archive file ‘C:\WINDOWS\TEMP/akismet.tmp”.

  1. Log in to your C panel or by FTP access.
  2. Locate file manager and go to your wp-content folder
  3. Once you open the wp-content folder. Please create a new folder under wp-content, name its temp. In some cases, it might be there.
  4. Download a copy of your wp-config.file on your computer. Edit this file and find the below line of code.

if ( !defined(‘ABSPATH’) )

define(‘ABSPATH’, dirname(__FILE__) . ‘/’);

 Add following line of ode under. 

/*Set WordPress temporary directory */

define(‘WP_TEMP_DIR’, ABSPATH . ‘wp-content/temp’);

Save wp-config.php file, upload if done via FTP
